Skarta Finland gained solid experience from Fennovoima’s Hanhikivi 1 project04.01.21
Skarta Finland (former Suomen Maastorakentajat) has been involved in Fennovoima’s Hanhikivi 1 project in Pyhäjoki from the beginning. In autumn 2015, Fennovoima Oy completed a connecting road from Highway 8 to the power plant area, and at the moment, Skarta is building the cooling water extraction infrastructure for the coming nuclear power plant.
“When the connecting road was completed, our next task was the removal of the surface soil at the nuclear power plant site and the construction of a detour road around the area planned for the plant. This was our first project for the plant supplier RAOS/TITAN-2,” says Project Manager Roman Polin from Skarta.
The Hanhikivi 1 project work, which has continued for six years, has given Skarta a lot of know-how and experience. The value of the work will be emphasised in the future when the building permit starts the actual construction work. According to Polin, one of the special features of nuclear construction is accurate documentation.
“We have been able to carry out fast, large and technically difficult project packages for both RAOS/TITAN-2 and the licence-holder Fennovoima. This means that we are well-prepared to work on a tight schedule and meet high quality standards, including in the work related to the actual construction of the plant,” Roman Polin says. The construction of the infrastructure for cooling water extraction structures has also proceeded in good cooperation with the client. The work includes earth moving, concreting and metalwork, the last two of which are carried out by Skarta as their own tasks.
“The experience and know-how in the coordination and implementation of these works gives a competitive advantage in the contract work for the nuclear and turbine islands of the power plant; in the contract work, concrete and steel structures as well as the installation of equipment and pipelines are carried out simultaneously,” Polin continues.
